Honoring Las Vegas Metro Police Officer Austin Abdelnabi
I am sad to report a police officer (CALLSIGN: 3 HENRY 4) who was patrolling in Southeast Area Command of Las Vegas, Nevada was struck down by gunfire on August 4th in an exhange with a savage, malicious criminal. Officer Austin Abdelnabi was one of the first to arrive on scene and was immediately met with gunfire. The rounds struck him and he instantly went down. Officers on scene desperately tried to keep Austin alive and performed CPR. Including the fire department who took over. Austin was then transported to University Medical Center where doctors and nurses continued the urgent task of keeping Austin alive. However, Austin did not survive, Sadly, his injuries were mortal.
This really broke my heart. I looked at my phone and said "there is no way we have another officer down." I quickly verified it was true, and I headed down to the scene with hopeful intent. It was not too long after that officers verified with me that we had lost Austin and I took a big sigh and my eyes teared up. l think about Austin, his family, and the law enforcement community as a whole taking such a massive loss. It really does show that everyday there is danger to our communities and these officers are willing to go out and protect others regardless. To have such a heart to do this job knowing the dangers exist, these men and women are patriots and they do not get nearly enough credit for their actions everyday. Patrol officers are first to the scene in most cases, and their bravery and sacrifices are among the most heroic I have ever seen in my life.
We will continue to honor the legacy of Austin, and we send our condolences and prayers to the family, friends, and officers that knew him.
